Collaboration in Healthcare - Everyone Matters

"Neil Jordan, Worldwide General Manager of the Health Industry for Microsoft. Doctors, specialists and other healthcare professionals need to be able to share the most up-to-date information, whether they are in a hospital or clinic, treating a patient, travelling between facilities or teleworking. They need communication and collaboration tools that help them connect with each other and with critical information to improve their performance and reduce errors."

“make them use it” is not a valid EMR adoption strategy

"Of course we are all aware that a traditional EMR rollout is a huge financial commitment (thus raising the financial risk considerably, in addition to the operational risk of upending the healthcare organisation for a minimum of two years while the project is implemented). In many cases, those risks are well flagged and whilst typically underestimated, they have at least been given strong consideration. However the biggest risk to such a project is usually one that doesn’t receive much attention – user adoption"

EMR Implementation – Big Bang or Phased Approach?

"One question that we have come across with clients time and time again is “How should we implement an EMR?” This usually refers to whether a hospital should take a Big Bang approach to the implementation of Electronic Medical Records or phase it in over time. One of the largest concerns with hospital management during the implementation of an EMR are..."

A new $345 million state-of-the-art private hospital from the Calvary Hospital Group has officially opened in Adelaide with clinicians using Vitro's Digital Medical Record.

The new 344-bed hospital doubles the size of their previous Wakefield facility now incorporating 700 staff, 16 operating theatres and is South Australia’s only private hospital offering a 24/7 emergency department.

The Calvary Hospital Group started using Vitro's Digital Medical Record in its Bethlehem facility in 2013. It was rapidly scaled across the group and is in use in 11 of its private and public hospitals. The Digital Medical Record at Calvary, which was co-designed with their clinicians to meet their exact requirements, manages their patients' clinical information while also integrating with their existing hospital systems. Since its implementation which initially focussed on end of bed nursing, Calvary has year on year expanded the use of its Vitro product including care areas such as paediatrics, maternity, oncology, rehab, drug & alcohol and mental health.

David Nash, Vitro Software CEO says, "We are delighted to have such a long-standing partnership with Calvary who excel and innovate in their field. Calvary's approach to moving their hospitals digital very much aligns with our methodology. Vitro's agility means it seamlessly works across their spectrum of small and large hospitals. In the case of Calvary they were able to implement Vitro in one of their hospitals and then scale based on those successes and learnings. The phased implementation approach significantly reduces the risks associated with change. Additionally, clinician design ensures ease of use and minimal training while also aligning with each clients budget and resource demands."

David goes on to say "I continue to be impressed by Calvary's commitment to bring best in class healthcare to the people they serve, and the opening of their newest hospital in Adelaide is testament to that."
