Collaboration in Healthcare - Everyone Matters

"Neil Jordan, Worldwide General Manager of the Health Industry for Microsoft. Doctors, specialists and other healthcare professionals need to be able to share the most up-to-date information, whether they are in a hospital or clinic, treating a patient, travelling between facilities or teleworking. They need communication and collaboration tools that help them connect with each other and with critical information to improve their performance and reduce errors."

“make them use it” is not a valid EMR adoption strategy

"Of course we are all aware that a traditional EMR rollout is a huge financial commitment (thus raising the financial risk considerably, in addition to the operational risk of upending the healthcare organisation for a minimum of two years while the project is implemented). In many cases, those risks are well flagged and whilst typically underestimated, they have at least been given strong consideration. However the biggest risk to such a project is usually one that doesn’t receive much attention – user adoption"

EMR Implementation – Big Bang or Phased Approach?

"One question that we have come across with clients time and time again is “How should we implement an EMR?” This usually refers to whether a hospital should take a Big Bang approach to the implementation of Electronic Medical Records or phase it in over time. One of the largest concerns with hospital management during the implementation of an EMR are..."

Vitro Software's drive to continually improve the clinician experience in their Digital Medical Record sees them include advanced Voice Enablement. This feature Vitro Voice, covers Voice Control, Speech to Text & Notes Templating. It allows clinicians to navigate through Vitro, open a patient's record, fully document patient interactions leveraging pre-configured templates and then save and close the record - all using step-by-step voice commands. Available to clients now, and with minimal installation requirements, Voice Enablement allows clinicians to entirely focus on their work and use their voice to complete their patient administration within Vitro in real-time. Voice enablement saves a tremendous amount of time on administration, while a clinician might typically type 40 words per minute or less, they speak over 120 words per minute. Voice commands are at the user's own pace; there is no requirement to wait for the text to appear on screen. In addition to reducing the time take to complete notes, through the templating functionality, Vitro Voice encourages more complete & consistent notetaking, improving overall quality & making clinical coding easier.

Vitro Software CEO David Nash says, "Vitro is a highly intuitive and easy to use system, but we want the clinical experience to be unparalleled. A key focus of Vitro's continued development is on 'less clicks' for end-users, especially busy doctors and nurses and to that end, we are delighted to now launch Vitro Voice, advanced Voice Enablement which minimises or even eliminates the need for typing."

Mr Nash continues, "Clinicians can now capture the complete patient story using their voice. We see this as a huge advantage to how clinicians work, allowing them to reduce administration time and have a greater focus on patient care. For example, we are told that documenting a procedure to insert grommets can take longer than the procedure itself. Using the pre-defined templates, voice control & speech to text, the surgeon can complete their notes up to 5 times more quickly. This kind of technology is set to benefit so many clinicians across a range of healthcare specialities."

Clinicians have reported "Spending more quality time interacting with patients, an improved ability to provide even better care and making better quality diagnoses." It has allowed them to go home at the end of the day with their work complete.

Vitro's Voice Enablement includes features such as superior recognition accuracy, custom words and templated text. It requires minimal installation and can be adapted entirely to the Apps within each client's Digital Medical Record. Vitro Voice forms part of Vitro's 4.1 product release, which also includes other User Interface enhancements and additional features in exporting patient records to PDF.
