“make them use it” is not a valid EMR adoption strategy

"Of course we are all aware that a traditional EMR rollout is a huge financial commitment (thus raising the financial risk considerably, in addition to the operational risk of upending the healthcare organisation for a minimum of two years while the project is implemented). In many cases, those risks are well flagged and whilst typically underestimated, they have at least been given strong consideration. However the biggest risk to such a project is usually one that doesn’t receive much attention – user adoption"

EMR Implementation – Big Bang or Phased Approach?

"One question that we have come across with clients time and time again is “How should we implement an EMR?” This usually refers to whether a hospital should take a Big Bang approach to the implementation of Electronic Medical Records or phase it in over time. One of the largest concerns with hospital management during the implementation of an EMR are..."

Sláinte Healthcare, the international healthcare technology company has announced its 51st hospital partnership today with the installation of its software, ‘Claimsure’ at Beacon Hospital in Dublin. The software is helping hospitals throughout the country to manage their cash-flow by changing the way in which insurance claims are processed.

Claimsure, is installed in over 80% of hospitals throughout the country and processes approximately €1.4bn in insurance claims annually. Claimsure’s installation in Beacon Hospital will enable the Hospital to reduce costs, debt and the administrative burden on the hospital, which will in turn benefit its over 80,000 patients per annum.

Commenting on the partnership with Sláinte Healthcare, Michael Cullen, CEO of Beacon Hospital said:  “Beacon Hospital is one of the leading independent hospitals in this country and has been a leader in medical innovation since we opened in 2006.  Our aim is to continue to drive efficiencies in healthcare by using the best technology available to improve our service, reduce our administrative costs and deliver a fast and efficient medical experience for our patients.”

“Since transferring to new ownership and management in the summer, we have undergone a thorough review of our systems and processes to ensure that we remain at the forefront of medical innovation in this country.  To this end, our strategy is to engage with like-minded innovative partners who are also experts in their field and this is why we made the decision to appoint market-leader, Sláinte Healthcare, to manage claims at the hospital.”

“On meeting Sláinte, it was obvious that they had an unrivalled knowledge of the hospital sector and the claims process. We had a demanding implementation timeline and we were very impressed that it took Sláinte an unprecedented six days to get live from the initial green light. That implementation time reflects not just the effort of Sláinte but also the commitment of our own staff in facilitating such a rapid turnaround. Sláinte’s knowledge of the sector and their vast experience in deploying their software to hospitals throughout the world has been invaluable to this Hospital and will ultimately enable us to deliver greater efficiencies for our staff and our patients.”

Established in 2006, Sláinte Healthcare is the fastest growing healthcare technology company in Ireland having grown by over 1,500% in the last five years.  Headquartered in Sandyford in Dublin, the Company employs over 130 people across its offices in Ireland, the Middle East, Australia and the UK.

Andrew Murphy, CEO, Sláinte Healthcare added:   “We are delighted to welcome Beacon Hospital, one of Ireland’s leading independent Hospitals, on board as our 51st hospital partner in Ireland and look forward to working with them in the months ahead.  I am delighted with the level of enthusiasm and passion of everybody in Beacon Hospital in embracing the best technologies to improve efficiencies. Whilst we are growing so strongly internationally, it is also extremely rewarding to work closely with a leading innovative Hospital just a stone’s throw away from our HQ! ”

Claimsure increases efficiencies in budget management and cash flow for hospitals by enabling health insurance claims to be processed electronically.  It was the first product developed by Sláinte Healthcare when it launched on the market in 2007.  In 2012, the public health system, by way of an EU open procurement process, selected Claimsure as its national Health Insurance Management System

Sláinte Healthcare has since expanded into the delivery of complete paperless solutions for hospitals with its Vitro software which moves hospitals from paper patient charts to electronic charts. Vitro has been rolled out to hospitals and healthcare institutions all over the world including, Australia, UAE and globally through the charity Operation Smile, who are now using Vitro as their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system across 56 countries

Andrew Murphy, Chief Executive, Sláinte Healthcare, concluded:  “Healthcare services throughout the world are moving towards electronic patient records and paperless patient management systems. Sláinte Healthcare’s software offers hospitals and healthcare providers the tools that enable them to do this and thereby deliver savings to and improve efficiencies for healthcare services on an international scale. This ultimately allows hospitals and healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes.”

Andrew Murphy was a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2014.  In 2013, Sláinte Healthcare was ranked third in Deloitte’s fifty fastest growing companies for 2013 and in the top 100 of the ‘Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2013.’

Located in south Dublin, Beacon Hospital provides world-class acute care services, including orthopaedic surgery, heart surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, comprehensive cancer care (medical oncology and radiation oncology) and general and emergency medicine services. The hospital, which opened in October 2006, has 183 acute care beds and eight operating theatres. With over 200 consultants and over 600 highly skilled personnel, the hospital treated circa 83,000 patients in 2013.
