They need communication and collaboration tools that help them connect with each other and with critical information to improve their performance and reduce errors."

“make them use it” is not a valid EMR adoption strategy

"Of course we are all aware that a traditional EMR rollout is a huge financial commitment (thus raising the financial risk considerably, in addition to the operational risk of upending the healthcare organisation for a minimum of two years while the project is implemented). In many cases, those risks are well flagged and whilst typically underestimated, they have at least been given strong consideration. However the biggest risk to such a project is usually one that doesn’t receive much attention – user adoption"

EMR Implementation – Big Bang or Phased Approach?

"One question that we have come across with clients time and time again is “How should we implement an EMR?” This usually refers to whether a hospital should take a Big Bang approach to the implementation of Electronic Medical Records or phase it in over time. One of the largest concerns with hospital management during the implementation of an EMR are..."

South Pacific Private, Australia’s leading treatment centre for addiction, trauma and mental health conditions has implemented Vitro Elements, Vitro Software’s specialist Mental Health Digital Medical Record. The four-month implementation meant that staff and patients benefitted quickly, with patient clinical information being captured digitally at the patient’s side.

“We chose Vitro Software’s Mental Health solution because it enabled us to move to a fully digital environment quickly and safely,” says Amy Orsatti, Quality/Systems/Research Manager. “Moving from paper to Vitro’s Mental Health Digital Medical Record was an easy process – it is a familiar, intuitive system that required less than two hours training for our clinicians. It really is simple to use. We have already seen a significant reduction in our staff administrative workload, searching for and updating patient information,” she adds.

“Having access to our patients’ information on the move has had a hugely positive impact on how we work. It will go a long way to eliminating the costs and challenges of managing paper patient records. We have already seen an improvement in our real-time reporting of patient information, and this ultimately allows us to focus our time on treating patients,” explains Ms Orsatti.

“We pride ourselves on providing our patients with best-in-class care, so having a patient’s clinical information at the touch of a button is invaluable and allows us to further enhance the care we provide,” says Narelle Mann, a Registered Nurse at South Pacific Private. “Using Vitro is simple, it is really intuitive to use, and it meets the national standards.”

“The success of this project is testament to the work of the South Pacific Private team, and our own team who together implemented Vitro’s specialist Mental Health Digital Medical Record in just four months, and also in a completely virtual environment,” says David Nash, Vitro Software Chairman and CEO. “We are delighted to be working with South Pacific Private who have such dedication to the people they treat.”
