The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is actively expanding its national healthcare system, to meet the needs of the growing population, and support economic expansion with leading international medical facilities, corporations and academic establishments.  All of the seven emirates, of which Abu Dhabi is the largest accounting for 87% of the total area of the entire UAE, provide healthcare services to their citizens and are actively growing their healthcare facilities.  There are three governing health care regulators: The Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Health Authority Abu Dhabi, these organisations regulate healthcare services and providers across the seven emirates. 

The UAE Healthcare providers are divided between public and private.  The public hospitals are managed by their respective regulatory authority.  In recent times these regulatory authorities have partnered with private local & foreign healthcare organisations, to oversee the day to day running for some facilities.  This highlights the importance of the private players to UAE’s Healthcare development.

UAE Healthcare Market spending for 2013 reached an estimated $16.8 billion and is forecast to grow at compounded annual growth rate of over 16% in 2014.  Seventy percent of this spend comes from government bodies. The growth of public private partnerships in turn presents the opportunity for foreign direct investment, and opens up the doors for many foreign healthcare organisations.
