“make them use it” is not a valid EMR adoption strategy

"Of course we are all aware that a traditional EMR rollout is a huge financial commitment (thus raising the financial risk considerably, in addition to the operational risk of upending the healthcare organisation for a minimum of two years while the project is implemented). In many cases, those risks are well flagged and whilst typically underestimated, they have at least been given strong consideration. However the biggest risk to such a project is usually one that doesn’t receive much attention – user adoption"

EMR Implementation – Big Bang or Phased Approach?

"One question that we have come across with clients time and time again is “How should we implement an EMR?” This usually refers to whether a hospital should take a Big Bang approach to the implementation of Electronic Medical Records or phase it in over time. One of the largest concerns with hospital management during the implementation of an EMR are..."

We’re pleased to announce a major advancement in patient data protection & security, introduced in the latest release of Vitro, Locked/Restricted Patient Access.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities face increasing demands to protect patient privacy, safeguard confidential records, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Our new access control functionality further addresses these challenges by enabling healthcare providers to restrict access to sensitive patient information — especially for high-profile or VIP cases — through a secure locking mechanism.

As the demand for stronger privacy and data governance grows, Vitro’s new access control functionality empowers healthcare organisations. With this feature, authorised users can lock a specific patient record in Vitro, making it completely hidden from all other users.

Key highlights of the feature include:

  • Passcode Protection: Patient records can now be locked and accessed only with a valid passcode, ensuring that only authorised personnel can view sensitive information.
  • “Break-Glass” Emergency Access: In urgent situations, a secure "break-glass" passcode allows select personnel to override the restriction & gain immediate access. All break-glass events trigger automatic alerts to a predefined group and are recorded in the audit log.
  • Comprehensive Audit Logging: Every access attempt, unlock event, or break-glass usage is logged for full traceability and compliance.
  • Seamless Integration with Existing Access Control Systems: This new functionality aligns with existing role-based access and hospital security protocols, and digital access control strategies, such as secure zones and role-based permissions.

These enhancements reflect our commitment to patient privacy, safety, and regulatory compliance.
