Within the first few weeks of Australia’s legislation around Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) a total of 63 notices were received, and with the highest percentage occurring in the healthcare sector. After the last article I wrote was published, I was asked a very insightful question, which was, “If you were writing a new piece of software, how would you go about integrating it?” This led me to reflect on the changes within both our company’s attitude to integration and the changes within the industry in general since I became involved in integration around 8 years ago.

...But this now undersells what an integration engine does, or is capable of. While the bulk of the integration work may still follow this diagram, the engine that Sláinte uses, Interfaceware’s Iguana, took a new approach to solving the healthcare interoperability problem and the solution that they came up with has the potential to change the role of the integration engineer within a healthcare setting.
