Mr Pedersen said he believes the interest in EMRs, even if they haven't eventuated, shows there is an appetite for change at the clinical level and at the managerial and operational level in the private sector, but it is is coming unstuck at the executive and board level. There are a number of reasons for this, one of which is the business model of private hospitals and the way visiting medical officers work. He also credited the digital medical record vendors such as Vitro as having a compelling offering in terms of price and ease of installation.
